- Bioinjected 50 yd3 80/20 Gravel-Fines Mixture Above Virgin Tundra.
- 490 ppm Diesel
- Reduced to 130 ppm in 13 Days
BioGenesis received approval to proceed with bioremediation of diesel contaminated gravel pads atop virgin Alaska tundra after successful results of ex-situ remediation efforts. The tundra is especially sensitive to contamination. Vegetation grows slowly and only under optimal conditions. Any further stress to the tundra makes vegetative survival nearly impossible.
The BioGenesis formulations were evaluated and found beneficial to remediation efforts because they are not only safe to use in sensitive areas, but they are also very effective.

BioGenesis provided technical assistance, project procedure planning and implementation guidance to Alaska Technical Environmental Services, Inc. The remediation procedures outlined by BioGenesis included:
- Layout and design of injection grid pattern.
- Chemical mixture and application temperatures.
- Injection procedures and protocols.
After one week, the ex-situ process results were compared to the results obtained in this in-situ injection bioremediation study. The results indicated the ex-situ process worked faster, but not appreciably enough to warrant the excavation process. The in-situ process was recommended and accepted as the preferred method for remediation of the gravel pads.
